The class was reduced somewhat from that of its Freshmen year, several classmates having left our ranks. Our first class -meeting of the year was held and the following officers were e- lected: President,Pauline Heweomerg Vice-President,Ada Mitchellg Secre- tary, Robert Wernerg and Treasurer, Forest Myers. Our Sophomore class furnished its share of football material. Forest Myers, Herman Kitzlcr, Halle Turnbell, and Gaylord Patterson fwho is no longer a student of Carey High Schooll represented us on the field and helped to form our Co- Championship team. Several of the other boys helped to warm the bench, but' gathered no splinters. THE The Sophs, we call them gay, when the call for basketbell went forth, the Sophomore class responded with a large delegation. Forest Myers, Herman Kitzler, and Fnlld' Turnbell made thezvsrsity squad. We sent Hickey Dow, Psuline Newcomer,Dorcas Baker,Ade Kitchell, Margaret Wenzinger,Mary E.Iontegue, and Ruth Yullholand to represent us in girls' basketball. Those musically inclined made their share of noise in the Bend, Orches1ra, and Glee Club. All was not plsy, however, and before long we found it was neces- sary to settle down and put forth that hard and earnest labor which leads to success. Our Sophomore year has been filled with thrills end spills, nevertheless,we are looking forward with breathless anticipation to the tism: when we shall be announced ms Carey High Juniors. -Eileen Kirkwood SOPHS At their work and at their play, While at work they do their best, When at play their minds do rest. Ruth has set forth an unusual amount of diligence which has done much in making the Yeer Book what it is. Virginia has shown much business ability and sigecity in the way she has toiled for on excellent financial outcome. Gladys,Xenneth and Dick have proved in salesmanship, if their ability they are to be judged by the number of ads sold. has displayed Vary, as Art editor, her genius in the manner in which she has contributed to the artistic side. The jokes are unique and smile-bringers, all be- cause of Catherine's untiring ener- gy in watching for bits of fun. Margaret,by becoming a guard on the irportent events of the year, has presented an exceedingly interest- ing calendar. Taking 1 clue from the clever snap-shotspagcs, We can readily see thot Helen his done full justice to her position as Snap-Shot editor. If we can judge by the number of Annuals sold,we think that Ed and Tony would succeed in the field of merchandising. Margie and Bob have done full justice to the athletic events by clever and original write-ups. Eliza, the Activity editor, has had under her supervision the literature telling of the functions and progress of the various school activities, and she has done splendid work. Mr. Huffman, as supervisor and an in- valuable aid, has had the opportu- use ideas and knowledge nity to which he gained in publishing the Annuals of former years. Due to what the country calls the HDepressionH, it has been nec- essary for the staff to publish the Year Book themselves and thus re- duce both the cost of the Lnnual and also the price of ads to the merchants. We sincerely hope that this will not lessen its value as a memory book and ask that you attri- bute the nurerous errors to inex- perience. Last but not least, the Staff owes Hr. Hood and Hiss Pohl e deep vote of gratitude for their liberal contributions of time and labor. HOIIEI ECONOIIICS' DEPJLRTIIENT The Hone Economics Department, under the direction of Miss Heath, consists of Freshmen Foods and Sophomore Clothing classes. The Freshmen girls have cons pleted a very successful year of the study of foods, finishing an attractive, as well as useful,note- book, and a recipe file which was used in preparing foods for the cafeteria. These girls and the Seventh Grade girls helped Liss Clark prepare the food for the un- der-nourished children. One of the outstanding features of the year's work was the preparing and serving of school banquets including: Ki- wanis, School Masters', Football and Junior-Senior. The Sophomore girls have been quite busy making many useful gur- ments which include: cotton, Wool, silk and make-over problems. Swag- ger suits and silk dresses were made for Easter and serving cos- tumes for the Junior-Senior banquet v U :a:a:L:L:L:a:L za- szscsansunsabunezza:news 1-1. ,...,..... 1. ,.........,.....n,... ucv. , .U H... -f - - v -f -1 U -- -' -' -f -I -' -nv -f -' -' -'. -we -L:z:L:ua:u::L:LcL:L:L:' -zsaxsuuzsasc XL.-L:L:L:L.vL:f.:L:L, ---- -- .- .----- .--.- :rarerw-r:'w-.cwwurwvrwr 'rr-,farm -1 - A -A A A A A A A A A A A A ,rA A A A A A A A-A A A A A A A A A A A A A . Is it possible that four that It seems began our high years have passed? only yesterday we school career, but how soon we have reached our goal - graduation. Now that correncement has come to us, we realize what the true meaning of that beautiful word is. Indeed, it is the commencement of a great jour- ney on new roads into new worlds. But stay! Let us pause a more ent in our haste and look back over our high school days. Days of ach- ievements and many happy associa- tions. In September, l950, with the greatest anticipation but wobbly knees, sixty-four Freshmen entered men were , , , , ing to bring about a championship Corey High School. is our four year journey,we many highways stood out We could.not travel them to choose the one which We started found that before us. all-we had would give us the knowledge that would pave the way for our future honor, suc- cess, and happiness. We remember the kind attention and good advice giv- en us at the critical time by the Facultyz Our year's activities as Fresh- directed by Robert Heck , Presidentgand Miss Helen Smith, ad- visory teacher. Under their direct- ions we joined various clubs and several members went out for ath- letics. Before we realized it,June came: it brought with it vacation. Like all vacations: it went rapidly and we found ourselves at school again enrolled as Sophomores We elected Robert Heck, presidentg and Hiss Claire Rollinger and Hr. Edvard Fries acted as our advisory teachers. Bore accustomed to the busy high school life, this year proved even more enjoyable. Again came vacation, and we departed with the realization that We would re- turn in the Fall as Juniors. After the welcome and customary three months of paradise,we appear- ' :uv 1 v vvv:L:L3L.L:Ly-an v uv -fu., w uv vit Ah nl IH ed to resume our journey on the road of education. Richard Kitzler, president, and Miss Eleanor Ryan, class sponsor, presided over our de- liberations. This was our busiest year so far. Several Junior boys and one girl, received varsity let- ters as rewards for their athletic ability. Work was begun on the operetta, Hln Old Iouisianau, and plans were laid for the Junior- Senior banquet. However, all this was abruptly ended by the announce- ment that school would close April 3,because of the lack of sufficient funds to continue the entire school year. In the Fall of 1935, we re- turned, not as dignified Seniors, but still as Juniors. In one month We completed our Junior work and became eligible for Senior courses. The class organized under the lead- ership of Margaret Pahl, President, and Miss Helen Smith, class advisor. Realizinm our abilities would be truly tested, we hoped to make our final year the best possible. We think we have succeeded in most re- spects. Nine Senior boys proved their worth on the gridiron in help- team. Four Senior girls and four Senior boys were awarded varsity basketball letters. Our class will long be remembered for its athletes musicians, actors, and honor roll students. The class has always stood high scholastically. We graduates will always cher- ish the memory of the most out- standing and wonderful events of our high school career--the Baccal- aureate Service, Commence ent, the Junior-Senior banquet and the Alum- ni dance. Our Senior year has drawn too rapidly to a close, but as we leave the halls of C.H.S. and start on our way into new worlds let us remember, fellow classmen, that we will always be bound together by that mutual love for dear old Carey High School. - Mabel Wilson .
