C, A M T 'I x3 0 0 X' SENIOR CLASS ROLL AND HISTORY Reading from leit to right: lst Row Betty Allen, Kittie Baker, Margaret Baker, Dorotha Bame, Arthur Brown, Gladys Buckingham, Monroe Crist. 2nd Row Eldon Dame, Lucille Derr, Harry Dible, Frank Frederick, Frank Grady, Rufus Hackney, Margaret Haferd. 5rd Row Irene Hudson, Mary Hudson, Dorothy Hutchinson, Francis Kitzler, Graydon Knowlton, Mary Louise Krantz, Delmer Lortz s sth Row Aloysius McLaughlin,Reva Morehart, James Mulholland,Mary Jane Myers, Dwight Needs, Margaret Needs, Dean Powell. 5th Row Isabelle Rainsberger, Alice Roynon, Helen Sanner, John 4 Steen, Harold Stevens, Bernice Stoody. 6th Row Blaine Thomas, Dorcas Tong, Mike Vaughn, Ruth Wright, John Yohe, Mary Yost. Come with me while I draw back the Curtain of Time. Within its magic portals we gaze upon a scene, one never to bo forgotten. It discloses to us the view of a green background. A group of children as green as the grass that grows under their feet, are following their leader. They are bewildered and lost. They cling to their leader who imparts to them a sense of well-being and trust. The leader is none other than Jack DeWitt, and his follow- ers are the verdant Freshmen who knoweth not and knoweth not that they knoweth not. Swish! And after a few months time, the Curtain of Time again allows us a glimpse of the same group of children. No longer do they fear. Their leader is a girl. Small but mighty Polly Colde iron leads them. They are engaged in various activities, as we, the audience watch them. We have come to the conclusion that these are the gay young Sophomores, who knoweth not and knoweth that they knoweth not. Crowded in that great auditorium, the audience sits in sus- pense waiting for the third act of this life drama to begin. The lights flicker, they go out, the crowd is silent.Old Father Time draws hack his Curtain, and as it swings hack happy children, laughing and chatting. It is was originally in green. Some have lost out, too long and tedious for them. ln this scene we hear groups of the same group as as the journey was a few of the leaders oldiron, and Robert Sultzbach are making good as leaders in other groups away from Carey. These are the Jolly Juniors who knoweth and knoweth not that they knoweth. are lost to this group. Jack Dewitt, Polly C The Final Act. The suspense is great. 'The Curtain of Time again discloses a stage on which we view a sadder and wiser group, not of children, but of young men and ladies. It is their last appearance but they are not mourning nor weeping. They have cour- age. Hush! There is their leader. He is speaking. As Arthur Brown comes forward with raised hand, all is quiet. Representing the Senior Class he extends to the faculty appreciation and thanks of the graduating class of l955. Having had a very successful four years, the Seniors who knoweth and knoweth that they knoweth bid adieu' Irene Hudscn Q36 5 x 1 fikfghf' I 51 f . - . We've nimed to please, so during football season our boys won fume and our cheer lenders pepped the crowd. Basket hnll didn't leave us in the shade either. By our persistent efforts at candy selling we made plans for the Junior-Senior banquet, but were forfeited when the school closed. We came singing through in the Cleo Clubs and we're rather proud of e successful year. We remain, Jolly Juniors Virginia Snobsrger SOPHOMOHE CLASS HISTCRY On the twelfth of September we stumbled into Room 18 and there found Mr. Kingsmore as our Home Room teacher. We elected Delcle Smith, presidentg Edgar Keller, vice-prcsidentg Harriet Criger,secretary-treasurer. As another representative to the Student Council, we appointed Mnxine Remo. We were also represented in thc Glee Clubs, Bend, and Orcktstrn. We feel that we have spent n most profitable, ns well as enjoyable year. The hand enjoyed a one-day trip to Detroit and furnished mu- sic for a trip on the Chippewa to Kingsville, Canada. They enter- tained with splendid programs at the Salem Festival and a sect- ional Farm Bureau meeting. Twice they presented concerts at Riv- erside Park, Findlay, and also aided in keeping things in action at the Carnival at Vanlue and at Carey. Throughout the sum er the band presented its regular Wednesday evening concerts in Carey. Even though the football and basketball teams had their ups and downs the band remained loyal at all times. A trip on the Chippewa will be taken again this year and the group will have an opportunity to broadcast from Detroit. Through the band, Carey Schools have a reputation of which to be proud. o THE ORCHESTRA Screeching of horns and cracking of strings with a few chords on the piano ushered in the first orchestra rehearsal of the year. As usual, the first practise was a discouraging one for the cen- ductor but things became brighter as rehearsals continued. The orchestra first appeared at the P.T.A. Minstrel. They were next heard at the March meeting of the P.T.A. Commencement closes the year's work for the orchestra. The orchestra was composed if the following members: Vincent Brown, Celia Reynolds, Qngela Haferd, Maxine Stiner,Helen Wonder, and Isabelle Rainsberger, violins, Genevieve Dow, clarinetg Rita Brown, Margaret Wenzinger, Karl Bame, saxophones3Norman Huffman, Mr. Huffman, cornetsg Arthur Brown, haritoneg Dean Powell,, trom- hsneg Eldon Dame, drumsg and Ruth Riestcr, piano. The orchestra was under the capable leadership uf Miss Warren. THE GLEE CLUBS A After much exercising of vocal chords, the Gleo Clubs, under the direction of Miss Finley, began the year's work. 'Since the eperetta was cancelled, the only appearance of the Glee Clubs was at a P.T.1. meeting and the Farmers' Institute. The year was a most profitable one and was enjoyed by all. at , wo-------..' . ' h'tf ' 7 r yravr 0 M 199,99 C XX Q suv M4 efiudf 'A bv. . Q ff' f . , CARYATID STAFF As a gift from the year of Nineteen Hundred Thirty-three the annual staff received a bundle of disappointments, Wo soon learned that it would be impossible to publish an elaborate annual such as had been published heretofore. So, we soon began to work on a less elaborate year book. The lines became deeper in the fore- head: of the editor, Helen Senner, and the business manager, Eldon Dame. One could see uDutchu written all over Margaret Bakers face. Ruth Wright and Irene Hudson were always on someone's trail col- lecting jckes and items for the calendar. Alice Roynon, Arthur Drown, and Frank Frederick practised nhlgh pressuren methods. It was the duty of Dorcas Tong, Mary Jane Myers, and Rufus Hackney to influence the students tc buy annuals since we didn't went to pub- lish the year book just for the enjoyment which we would derive from it. After snap shots were eliminated, Dorothy Hutchinsonfand Revs Mcrehert were drafted into other service. Kitty Baker and Monroe Crist were responsible for the reports concerning our tri- umphs and defeats in the realm of football and basketball. Isabelle Rainsberger was kept busy seeing that reports were submitted on , time. We, the annual staff, wish to express our deep appreciation to Mr. Huffman, Miss Warren, Agnes Pahl, and anyone who, through untiring efforts, have helped us to make this book a success. ' STUDENT COUNCIL The Student Council reorganized at the beginning of the school year with Betty Allen as president, Arthur Brown, vice president,' and Margie Audritsh, secretary-treasurer. Other members of the body were: Margaret Hsferd, Helen Sanner and Alice Roynon from the Senior class. Eddie Messmer, Tony Josko and Robert Heck represented the Juniors: Daryl Mcyer,Angela Haferd and Mnxine Bame the Sophcmores, and Gaylord Patterson end Margaret Dow, the Freshmen. This body assisted in the formation and adoption of the stu- dent activity ticket which, was a new feeture in our school life, Early in the fill the Council sponsored a Carnival, held for the benefit of the Athletic Association. , As has been the custom, the Council arranged the Chapel Prog- rams for the school your which were given by the different classes and organizations in the school. Several chapel programs were given by outside groups and speakers. The Student.Council is sponsored by Miss Helen Smith. p p ' . W. up-45 -t 0 0 9 Jtn' 'ek WA 6 I HOME ECONOMICS CLUB The Home Economics girls had a very successful year under the efficient instruction of Miss Heath. The department consisted of Sophomores, Freshmen and Junior High girls. The'Sophomores began construction work. This was the first class in Carey High School to have hed s previous year of sewing in the Junior High. They willingly responded when asked to make clothing for the Welfare Committee. At the Farmers' Institute, each girl displayed one of her projects. The Freshmen were the nLittlc Cocks'. This class prepared the lunches served in the cn- feteris ond turned waitress for the banquets held in the dining room. The Junior High girls did both cooking end sewing, lending a helping hand wherever their services were required. Both classes contributed their shore of home products for the nCountry Storen, one of the features of the High School Carnival. FUTURE FARMERS CF AMERICA This organization proved to be one of the most active during the year. The chapter was guided by Mr. Rcmig. Some of the things which kept the boys busy were: e pest cem- peign, corn show, Farmers' Institute, and u trip to the experiment station lest summer where some of the boys entered the judging team. Two delegates were sent to the state E.F.A. Leadership Con- ference. Cne representative was sent to the Vocational Agriculture public speaking contest et Waldo. A parent ond son banquet was sponsored by this group. This orgenizsticn also formed s basket- ball team. A marketing trip to Cleveland is to he taken this spring. The Seniors are lookirg ferwerd to s trip to Washington, D.C. ACTIVITY PROGRAM CURTATLED Cn eoecunt of the curtailed school term end because the school was forced to give way to benefits for relief work, the school act- ivities were seriously hampered during the school term. For the first time in many years there was neither an activity nor senior ploy. The Junior-Senior banquet was also dropped. lt is hoped that the coming year will see conditions return to normal to an extent that it will make possible e renewal of the usual progrim. 1 ' I at if-.E M ' v F ' i I' ffm! fN 1fL Lffm- ' g' 0 fd X . , . , ' M' ' .f N. il 1: , --' .. 4 WVR.- -.ffrll ,U Nj S..r'.x Q rl ' 'x . 4:7 4 .
