UUHEN A1 N Imam 3 hllwa Gone Are The Days September 4 1940 was the begtnnmg of our school days We were greeted by two teachers who dlvtded us mto two class rooms Mtss Ruth Srpple was m charge of the Slnqle ftrst grade and Mtss Kathryn Kmg was tn charge of the flrst and second grades together Naturally we were all frxghtened and bashful at ftrst but as the days went on we all got acquamted and felt well at home Out of both classes we have four grrls and stxteen boys left to graduate rn the class of 52 They are Mary Lou Haas Etlene Ruehrmund Hetmltch Rosanna Thomas Velma Fmk Dwrght Bean Iames Beatty Robert Coleman Paul Couts Nrles Hack Vernon Hetmlrch Frankhn Hrmler Ixm Lortmer Melvm Maceyko Robert Mathews Don Mzller Eugene Phtlbrook Emery Fryman Rrchard Hetmlrch Don Kelley and Robert Mrller Every day our teacher read to us some ktnd of short story whtch we emoyed very much We learned to prmt and to color prctures When recess came we would always race outsrde to see who could get the swtngs frrst but a teacher would always come to the rescue to see that almost every one got a chance At the beamntng of the year we brought rugs to school wxth us and every day after lunch we put them on the floor and lay down Naturally none of us would go to sleep but rt was a good rest for all of us Everyone hated to see that school year end We had a nrce long summer vacat1on ln September we started back to school agam only we were now tn the second grade It was nearly the same We were drvrded mto two groups Mrss Elrzabeth McBrxde had one room and Mrss Kathryn Kmg had the other It wasnt bad at all comxng back to school because we knew most of the gtrls and boys and knew more about what to do We learned a lot of new thtngs that year Betty Mosher Jomed our class that year and ts strll wxth us to graduate Our next year was qurte a blt dlfferent We were now m the thtrd grade For the trrst trme rn three years of school we had exams at the end of the flrst and second semesters That was really somethmg dtfferent for us It soon got to be old though Our teachers that year were Mrss Carrze Phrlbrook and Mrs Florstedt Part of us students went from the new buxldmg over to the old one and the rest of us rn Mxss Phrlbrook s room walted to go the next year lt was really somethmg new because we never got to see much of the old burldrng We had three new students Jotn us that year Ioanne Frrcke Mary Corwm and Bradley Landon They wall all three graduate tn the class of 52 As the end of the year drew near we were all busy studyrng for our second semester exams It drdnt seem very long before they were all over and school was out September 1942 was the begtnmng of our fourth year of school Mtss Martha Lrchtenberger and Mrs Florstedt were our mstructors that year The year flew past so fast that before we knew tt we were havmg another vacat1on and then back to school for another year We were now tn the frfth grade Our teachers were Mrs Elva Hartpence and Mrs Golda Gale Roger Davrs and Martlyn Hert tomed our class that year 1 thmk one of the most important thmgs we dtd that year that every one remembers 15 leamtng the states and capttals ln 1945 we returned to C H S frndmg Mrs Helen Burggraf and Mrs Golda Gale to be our teachers It 1ust dtdnt seem lrke rt could be true our last year of grade school I thmk I2 we were all very much excrted about our next year bemg our ftrst year of Iumor htgh Myron Remhart Jomed us that year We entered our frrst year of tumor htgh tn 1946 Mrs I L Patterson was our home room teacher Thrs was really a brg change from grade school We changed classes whrle before we Just sat tn one room all the trme We also chose class offtcers One th1ng l thmk we mlssed at f1rst was our recesses but we got used to that Mr I L Patter son was our superrntendent and Mr T A Gantz was our prrnctpal Anne H111 and Patrrcra Smeltzer entered our class Be1ng m the exghth grade was nearly the same as the seventh Mr Ray Saunders was our home room teacher The most xmportant thmg was that everyone was lookrng forward to the next year Mrldred Iones tomed our class Our frrst year of 1-hgh School lt was rn September 1948 that we were sworn rn as Freshmen Mrs Catherzne Kendall was our home room teacher We had several new students enter our class thts year They were Ianet Cherrtngton Sherhe Pearl Carol Pferfer and Rrchard Blakely Our class was one of the f1rst to order class sweaters that year and we were really proud of them They were black w1th gold strrpes The following fall we returned to good old CHS berng ln our second year of htgh school The blg event durmg that year was our Sophomore Dance Our home room teachers were Mrs Mary Orm and Mr Dennzs Bell Durtng that year we had three new students They were Betty McGraw B111 Henthorne and Glen Martm We returned to school the followrng fall to frnd Mrs I L Patterson as our home room teacher We were btg tumors whtch meant a lot to us At the begrnnmg of the year we ordered our class rmgs and got them around Chrtstmas Our thmk so The name of 1t was Home Sweet Homtcrde We also held a St Patrxck s Day dance that went off very well But the brg event of the year was our Iun1orSen1or Ban quet Gettmg thzngs ready was work but xt also was a lot of fun We had several new students who Jorned our class They were Bob Bowman Allen Anderson Dan Foster Norma Carter Berneta DeLong Lots Ltpker and Martha Sttffler Toward the end of the year we were begrnnrng to get exctted about betng a Semor next year In September 1951 we started back to school for our last year never to return aga1n Smce we were Semors there was a lot for us to do For the flrst ttme they had a day when all the semors 1n Morrow County met and went on freld trtps In October we had our senzor prctures taken Most of the semors were very much pleased wrth them We also sponsored another St Patncks Day dance on March 14 We took a trtp to Columbus and saw some of the tmportant bulldmgs We sponsored our last dance on May 2nd a May Day Dance On May 6 and 7 the Semor Class presented thelr play Rest Assured under the dtrechon of Mtss Faye Burr On May tenth the Iumor Class presented us w1th a Iumor Semor Banquet whlch we emoyed very much Everythmg was tops The one thtng I dont thmk anyone wrll forget rs our brg trrp to Washmgton D C We left early on Saturday May 17th and arrrved home the twenty second day ol May Mr and Mrs I L Patterson accompamed us on the trxp Mr Lyman S Hert was our advlsor lt was on the twenty sxxth day of May that the Iumor Class of 52 took over as Semors Yes on that day forty srx semors graduated from Cardmgton Hrgh School never to return as students to good old C H S , .
