...ENCUURAGEME T FOR I DIVIDUAL 0PINIONS... Gladly wolde he lerne, and gladly techef' - Chaucer When the separate worlds of teachers and students merged each day between 8:35 and 2:35, one wondered, in an at- mosphere such as this, whether the instructor or the pupil was doing the learning or the teach- ing. Both sides will admit they had much to gain from and give to each other. Through the eight daily class periods, all subjects taught were undercurrented with en- couragement for individual op- inions and creative thinking. Many teachers believed that opening a students mind to new ideas was much more im- portant than memoiizing facts. Through a government grant Stritch received new equipment such as records, films, and pro- jectors. These aids contributed more variation than ever in class programs. Three courses introduced this year, hwnanities, consumer ec- onomics, and world affairs, were successful and will be con- tinued. The new program studies booklet showed that many new courses, such as driver,s training, drafting, and geography would be open to interested students next year.
