1966 was a year of new events. Things were happening all over and advances ' were made in many new fields: One of the greatest was in science. Gemini 6 was sent into space and Lieutenant- Colonel White walked in space' for the first time. Another advance, closer to home for some of you, was the Second Vatican Council. It brought new rules and changed old ones. And it affected the Mass as can clearly be seen in your chapel. Heavyweight champion Cassius Clay defeated Floyd Patterson in a twelve-round bout. Although there were many advances in the year, there were also some setbacks. For many parts of the nation it was one of the worst winters ever. Shortly after Christ- mas, New York was hit by an added problem. Because of a short circuit somewhere in Toronto, the wild and bright city was struck dark. The Church kept changing. in '66. It was becoming a new Church, a modern one. You sensed these changes as you celebrated the Liturgy each week. Your chapel was barely five years old - and this year it changed. The altar was turned so you could see the actions of the priest and participate more easily. The communion rail disappeared. You no longer knelt to receioeg you now stood-people and altar came closer together. The Mass changed also in other ways. You now placed your own host in the ciborium and you carried the ' bread and wine to the priest as your part in the sacriyice. You sang more and you sang together as a unit. You became part of the great whole-You and God. And people were asking, Is God dead? And Up
