CLASS of 74 As freshmen, all 185 of us entered Ritter High School filled with ambition and lofty goals. Our freshman year brought us into contact with many new, and even startling ideas and subjects such as foreign languages tWhat could sound more alien than French or Spanish?j There were many firstsg Ritter produced its first musical, Take lt From The Top , in which 150 students actively participated, a new club, Students for Action, was organized in order to bring practical Christian living into stu- dent's lives. As sophomores tfrom the Creek sophos-wise and moros-foolishj we became more sure of ourselves, but were still thought of as underclassmen. We trem- bled at the thought of taking the dreaded hot seat in world history class. Min- icourse week, introduced in March, was an instant success. A new club, The Black Student Union, echoed with the sounds of, I am a black man, soul and all. Give me my freedom and let me stand tall. Father Kos wrote and directed the first original rock musical, Odyssey 72 , Father Cleary, our principal, left us to go to the Latin School and Mr. Velikan became our new principal. So we were finally in our junior year-the year of the big prom. Committees became the thing -theme, decorations, band, refreshments and most important, finance. To raise the necessary funds, the juniors sponsored a candy sale and sev- eral dances. On the big night, reigning king and queen, Kerry Payne and Paula Kenley, danced to the music of Knights in White Satin. Another highlight for the junior class was winning first place for our home- coming float with the theme, Weave got a Victory, Sew it Seams. The spring production of The King and I featured many juniors both backstage and up front. ln our senior year we were proud to have joe Metallic of our class be the first Ritter football player to be selected for the All-State Team. Our last year at Ritter ushered in a new, unique religious education pro- Vicwpresident gram. All teachers participated in the course offerings, adding interest and fostering better personal relationships between faculty and student body. The musical production in our se- Sheryl Joyner nior year was Brigadoon . Looking back, Ritter's largest gradu- ating class feels deep gratitude for the four years in which parents, teachers, and administration helped us to grow toward adulthood.
