Bowling The alley cats Leaving school as early as 1:30 became a habit for the Newman Bowling Team. Matches were held at three different alleys, from Jupiter to Palm Beach, with one match per week. In their respective classes, the boys team finished a close third, and the girls team finished se cond, both in the Sun- coast Conference. Practices were few and far between. All the members relied on their own abilities. Mr. Patrick O ' Hara was the moderator for both the boys and girls teams. He always kept a watchful eye over the bowlers. The Junior Bowlers Associa- tion concluded the eventful year with a banquet at the Old Port Cove Yacht Club. ABOVE: (Top Row); B. Baker, R. Schilling, Coach Patrick O ' Hara, T. Deloreto. Golf Birdie, bogie, or par? One of the least recognized sports at Newman was golf. Al- though there were only a few faithful fans, the eleven players were always trying to improve their stroke. The team was guided by Coach Gregg Cox and the team practiced at the Presidential Es- tates Golf Course which is located only a few miles away from the Newman Campus. Boys ' Track Run, sweat, and cheers Track has always been a sport in which an individual can achieve his highest potential. It is a sport which challenges the athlete to compete against himself. Although track may seem a lonely sport, it is really one of intense teamwork, for all members of the team support one another as they compete in their individual categories. The 1981 Boys ' Track Team, coached by Mr. Bucky Butler, continued as an excellent example of individual team work. Team members practiced after school to increase speed and maintain physical fitness. Although practices took up much of their free time, the members felt it was well worth it. And with the urging of Coach Butler, the team was victorious at its meets. TOP: Frank Myles, junior, runs his leg of a relay race.
