Boys ' Freshman Basketball Starting from scratch The freshman basketball team was composed of boys who wanted to get involved in a fun, competitive sport. Boys ' J.V. Basketball Team outnumbered fans A losing season says more than the fact that a team is unexperienced. According to the J.V. basketball team members, their 4-19 record was due in part to the general lack of interest in basketball at Newman. It ' s no fun playing to a crowd of ten, said more than one of the players. The team had no set practice schedule because their coach, Dr. Jorge Marban, was not a teacher at Newman, He worked for the Flood Control District. Sometimes we would look out at the stands before a game and see maybe five people, said sophomore George Manas. Yeah, it didn ' t do much for the morale of the team, added sophomore Andy McManus.
