When you ' re down in trouble, and you need a helping hand, I ' ll be there You ' ve got a friend Zoom in at a Newman party. Two girls, Betsey and Anne, join in the festivities of a typical Newman evening. A senior, Clarl , approaches Betsey. After chatting for a few moments Betsey interrupts him, Clark, I ' d like to introduce you to MY FRIEND Anne. These words convey a deep meaning. They introduce the feelings involved in friendship: trust, love, loyalty, good times, pride, and companionship. The definition of a friend is one attached to another by affection, regard, or esteem. How- ever, what is a friend in reality? Loyalty? Love? A shoulder to cry on? Good times? Karen Pastorino, fresh- man, believes; A friend is someone who sticks with you whether it be good times or bad. Through thick and through thin as the saying goes. Barbara Kissner, junior, tells of her friendship with Spanish teacher Mrs. Sue Watson, We understand each other. She tells me about her outer school activities in life and I tell her mine along with my future pro- spects. Friends are a part of life. Without them they would make each in- dividual a loner, with no one to go out with, no one to talk to, no one to share and love. A hermit. As Lucille Ricardo and Ethel Mertz of I Love Lucy once sang in a dramatic performance: If you ' re ever in a jam, here I am. If you ' re ever up a tree, call on me. If you ' re ever down a well, ring my bell. If you ' re ever in jail, I ' m your bail. Its friendship, friendship, just the perfect blendship. When other friend- ships have been forgot, ours will still be hot. Da Da Da Da Da Da Zing Zing Zing.
