Sophomores: more than a class I he 1980-81 sophomores were more than a class. They were a group of friends who always stuck together through good and bad, and prided themselves on the spirit and enthu- siasm that united their class. Often they spent their time having fun. Partying, working, and studying with each other were important to them. Any outsider watching the float Marti Miller is a perfect example of what happens when the sophomore class got rowdy for the pep rallies. Their spirit went to their heads. being built or seeing the sophomores reactions at the pep rallies could see how much being together meant to them, said Lisa Grimes. Parties and get-togethers were the favorite pas- time to the sophomores. Hardly a weekend went by when there wasn ' t a party at the beach on Singer Island or on Peanut Island. Above all, the sophomores sup- ported the football team. They actively cheered at the football games to show their spirit to all the other classes in Newman. While having fun during high school, the sophomores also realized that as the years pass by they will be receiving more responsibility and that college and the future are drawing nearer. 288 SOPHOMORES
