The renassiance man A young man with a Lark cigarette dangling from his mouth and a black beard and mustache was seen roaming the halls of Newman. This man, Father Hank Lemoncelli has taught religion to juniors and seniors for the past five years. He is a wordly, cultural man who possesses diverse interests. In 1968 Hank Lemoncelli joined the seminary where he studied in Newburgh New York for two years, he then became a novicitiate, one who is preparing for his vows, in Godfrey Illinois. After three years of study in the nation ' s capital, Washington D.C., Father journeyed to Europe to broaden his education. For the most part. Father was stationed in Rome but travelled to France and Spain where he mastered both the French and Spanish languages. In France he studied at Sorbonne and in Spain at the University of Salamanaca. Father Lemoncelli enjoyed Eur- ope immensely because of its simpler lifestyle, fantastic food, especially in Italy, and beautiful architecture. Father commented, Europe had a great sense of history which one doesn ' t find in the United States. Having studied and participated in the ministery for over twelve years. Father told some of the advantages and disadvantages of the priesthood. The advantages include meeting people at key points in their lives, administering sacraments, and shar- ing in the mission of the Church. The disadvantages include uncertainty in the Church, resulting from rapid change. Father stated, Perhaps the greatest advantage and disadvantage is living the mystery. Father devotes his leisure time to various hobbies, including carpentry and gardening. He has a passion for garage sales and is designing a model electric train. During Father Lemoncelli ' s five years at Newman he has had many memorable experiences. Two such highlights were Grad nite ' 80 and Homecoming ' 80. Father ' s goal for the future is to do well what he ' s doing now. He advises all Newman students to be open to a change of plans. Don ' t work too much accord- ing to absolutes but be open to doing what God might want us to do. e£ .OkV; Junior, Margaret Gates, shows off her handsome escort Father Hank Lemoncelli. Dust turns Rockingham Flashback: you ' re at the first Newman rock-n-roll concert in the gymnasium. The band Dust builds up momentum to keep in time with the music of Freebird. The student body cheers them on faster, and faster until the song ' s last notes end in one big roar from the audience. Newman seniors John Aubrey, on guitar, Gabe Hernandez, on guitar, and Justin Walsh, on drums, provided entertainment at parties, the Homecoming carnival, and at the Battle of the Bands, for everyone ' s enjoyment. Later Justin, John, and Gabe reorganized under the name of Rockingham. There are many disadvantages and advantages in playing in a band. The financial situation became difficult and a lot of hard work and concentration was required. But as Gabe stated, Everytime we get together, it ' s a party. They felt the great advantage was their friendship. It grew with each performance and practice. John, Gabe, and Justin plan to continue playing at parties and lounges in the future. Their repertoire includes ACDC, the Stones, some of their own songs, and their favorite, Zeppelin. Justin said, The applause makes it all worthwhile. Each member performs with a specific function. Justin keeps time, Gabe rhythm, while John leads. As John put it, We are not good separate, but when you put it together it ' s all right! SE(MIORS 259
