T is for Tremblay Who says learning has to be dull? Not Father Eugene Tremblay who began his class with the theme song from Johnny Carson. Father Tremblay ' s monologues aroused al- most as many laughs as the Tonight Show host ' s. Johnny Carson seemed to be a favorite of Father ' s as he borrowed many of his jokes. Father also seemed to take a liking to toads, specifically Toads in Space! His students faithfully returned his shouts of Toads in Space! with the reply of They ' re everywhere, they ' re everywhere! Father Tremblay had a watch whose alarm sounded every hour with a beep, beep, beep! During a freshman class at th e beginning of the year, the alarm went off, and Father proceeded to talk to the watch: Hello? . . . Yes, Mr. Born- horst . . . You want me to send so-and-so down to the office . . . o.k. fine. The student stood up and began to walk out the door. He turned around with a red face realizing that he had been the subject of an infamous Tremblay joke. Some students may get the idea that Father Tremblay ' s class was all fun and games. Freshmen in his Bible study class and seniors in Social Ethics, however, agreed that Father Tremblay ' s unusual teaching tech- niques helped them to better under- stand the material. Whether you were a babble-sister or toad you ' ll never forget the experiences of Father Tremblay ' s class. ACADEMICS 191

LEFT: Sometimes teachers will do anything to keep their students ' attention. Mr. Mike Wisniewski, democracy vs communism teacher, borrowed rabbit ears from a student involved in club initiations, BELOW LEFT: Sister Kathleen worked in the bookstore before and after school, BELOW RIGHT: Mrs. Karen Wedding hugged her sister Angle after a summer visit to Kentucky. Oister Kathleen Walli worked in the bookstore in addition to teacliing family living and consumer education classes. Her students designed their dream house, and learned how to cook gourmet foods. Spanish teacher Mrs. Sue Watson ' s room was decorated with typically Spanish objects: sombrer- oes, pinatas, toreodors and bulls. Occasionally, the odor of spicy food emanated from beneath her door as students brought in Spanish dishes for projects. For Mrs. Karen Wedding Satur- days meant hours of work with the yearbook and newspaper staffs to make certain her students met their deadlines. On more than one occa- sion she could be heard screaming, I am not Superwoman! In addition to teaching journalism, she had three sophomore English classes. How did she unwind? I jogged along the Intracoastal every night. It eliminated all the tension — until the next morning, she said. Mr. Mike Wisniewski ' s job also went far beyond weekday classroom activities. He was football and wrestling coach, staying after school for practice and attending every game and match. Mrs. Judith Wright, Spanish teacher, sponsored a trip to Mexico for students. ACADEMICS 193
