Physical Education Department Getting in shape Remember going to class all sweaty because you ' d just come from P.E.? You may have stood in front of the air-conditioner to dry your hair, nearly catching pneumonia. But the process of getting sweaty was fun, especially beating the other team in the basketball game that they were sure they would win. The Physical Education Department faculty were Mrs. Jane Panse, Mrs. Lila Veeker, Mr. Jim Arbogast, Mr. Sam Budnyk and Mr. Jack Kokinda. They offered every student a rigorous routine of physical activity from softball to hockey to volleyball. Who could ever forget those Presidential Physical Fitness activities? Panting, stumbling, and coughing were just a few symptoms of just getting over the 600! When finally junior year came around, the relief of no more P.E. was quickly replaced with regret. There were of course those who, rather than taking another acedemic course, decided to take P.E. III. They just couldn ' t get enough! t64 ACADEMICS

No matter what students and teachers used the library for — studying, reading, research — they agreed it was the best piace to find . . . A quiet place to think Shhh! It was the one place you had to be quiet. The library was open from 7:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on regular school days. Students who arrived to school early read the morning paper or the latest issue of their favorite magazine. Floaters, teachers who had no homerooms, prepared for the day ' s classes there. The library was more than just a dumping ground for books. The ladies in the library, Mrs. Pat Sharp, head librarian, Mrs. Natalie Piescik, assistant, and Mrs. Nell Martin, audio-visual coordinator, assisted students and teachers find- ing research materials, setting up A.V. material and reserving books for classes. One complaint from students about the library, however, con- cerned the east doors which were plastered with No Students signs. Mrs. Martin explained that constant traffic through the doors would disturb students in the library, adding that the doors could be used in the event of rain. Some students who began their day in the library ended it there, too, as they finished homework while waiting for a ride home. Senior Allen Morgan sets up the filnn projector for his religion class. BELOW: Sophomores Judy Yeaw, Sheila Cleary and Dawn Patterson study for an English test. 166, ACADEMICS
