Irate teachers demanded students undan- gle their participles, get their infini- tives together and rearrange those misplaced modifiers. Sophomores broadened their understanding of literature by studying such works as Dante ' s Inferno, Cervantes ' Don Quixote and Goethe ' s Faust. For juniors English class meant those dreaded term papers and essays about American literature, and sen- iors debated whether or not Lady Macbeth provoked her husband to murder Duncan, as amateur ac- tresses bellowed, Out damn spot! English was offered on three levels: basic, regular and honors, and electives such as journalism gave students an opportunity to use their writing skills in the production of the school ' s yearbook and newspaper. English teachers were: Mrs. Mary Custureri, Mrs. Charlene Hayes, Mrs. Diane Johnson, Mr. Patrick Keenan, Miss Anne Kitts, Sister Anne Marie Meagher, Mrs. Martha McKlnnon, Mrs. Nancy Mims, Mrs. Alicia Rafter, Mr. Roger Schram and Mrs. Karen Wedding.
