ir G, live me a break! students would shout in exasperation. The noon hour did just that. For some it meant communion and then a trip to the cafeteria where, if they were lucl(y, it would be Super Burger Day. For others food had to wait, for lunch was on a rotating schedule. Those were the students who suffered through the embarrassment of a grumbling stomach. Students usually spent their lunch breaks studying, socializing or finishing last minute homework. BELOW: Sophomore Tommy Gamble was one of many students who crammed for tests or caught up on homework on their lunchtime. LEFT: Everyday during home- room students had to push, shove and stretch to get to their lockers, but Rich Davidson, junior, was one of the lucky ones who got there early. OPEN!

I r Oecond to academics in importance at Newman is athletics, with football as the major sport. Both financially and spiritedly, students, parents and faculty supported the Crusaders. Coaches spent long hours after school drilling their teams, players sweated through sometimes endless practice sessions, students painted posters and cheerleaders yelled so much they lost their voices. Pep rallies gave students an opportunity to be rowdy without being punished. Every class tried to out yell the other with cries of We ' re number one! and Two bits, four bits Whether playing a sport or backing their team as fans, Newman students proved they were the champions. UPPER LEFT: Sophomores, Jack Scalisi, Shawn McGrath, Tom Craft and Steve Andrews, are silently awaiting their turn to cheer Sophomore Mania! .fFT; Cleaning- up after pep rallies is just one of the many chores involved in cheerleading.
