RIGHT: Senior Board members Karen Kemp, Joe Goates, Lynne Garr. Sandy South and Franky Fundora show the wet and wild side of the Senior class car wash held in October. I his year the senior class introduced a different method for class meetings with the creation of the Senior Board. As a new addition to Cardinal Newman ' s clubs the Senior Board was an organization composed of the senior officers, seniors who held office during their junior year, nine representatives, and any other active senior member. Different events which were spon- sored by the Senior Board included Homecoming Week, car wash. Parent Appreciation Night, Grad Night, and finally graduation. Senior moderator Father Hank Lemoncelli stated, Although we had fantastic class spirit last year, there were irregular meetings and lack of organization, whereas this year, although the spirit was not as immense, the Senior Board enabled us to overcome these factors by holding regular meetings every Tues- day, and accomplishing everything with a sense of organization. At these meetings everyone had a chance to either voice their own opinions or bring opinions from other members of their homeroom, said Senior Class President Joe Coates. Joe added, The meetings follow a routine agenda with Father Lemon- celli as advisor and myself as boss. Both Joe and Father declared that senioritis hit earlier this year, which later was reflected in the seniors joyous sounds at graduation. 128.CLUBS

Pep Club Their spirit was contagious Two bits, four bits, six bits a dollar, all for Pep Club stand up and holler! Where would Newman ' s spirit be without the Pep Club? The roof-raising pep rallies would turn into silent cheers. The football players wouldn ' t have huge artistical- ly designed signs to bust through. Spirit would just reach an all time low. The Pep club, led by moderator, Miss Terry Fretterd, was the group that painted all those signs for the games and pep rallies. Aha! That ' s where they came from. Therefore, the Pep Club members were the leaders and promoters of school spirit all year. And once they got everyone started, no one could stop! Kiwanettes They made time for others Newman sponsored many ser- vice clubs, and Kiwanettes was one of them. During the year they sponsored car washes, warm fuzzy sales and created a very unique initiation process. An annual event of the Kiwan- ettes and the free car wash for the faculty. Later in the year they had another car wash, this time for the students. Warm fuzzies, little creatures made of yarn, were sold to the student body and faculty then distributed to friends, boyfriends, girlfriends, and teachers. For initiation, costumes ranged from little girls to grandmothers. President Betsy Hoadley and Moder- ator Mrs. Nancy Mims agreed that the Kiwanettes were an asset to the community and school.
