Exchange Club Yes, Virginia If they had pulled off his beard, they would have been alarmed to find that Santa was a red-haired, freckle- faced teenager. Junior Brett Baker, posing as Santa, and his helpers, Exchange Club members, enter- tained the children at Gaines Park as part of their Christmas project. Some excited preschoolers climbed on Santa ' s lap and recited their long lists of gift requests, while Exchange Club members led others in Christmas carols, played games, and distributed refreshments. Senior Karen Kemp, along with junior Scott Johnson started the song and dance number, Hokie-Pokie, and soon tiny arms and legs were flying about and loud voices sang out of key. Seniors Pat Ordonez and Gina Arsenault played Simon Says with another group. After the party ended a weary group straggled out of the school, saying their goodbys to the children and pausing to give another hug or two. Santa, still dressed in his red suit, climbed into his sleigh (a convertible Rabbit) and drove out of sight, yelling Merry Christmas to all! to the children ' s delight. It had been the highlight of the service organization ' s year of activi- ties, which included serving dinner at Newman ' s first Oktoberfest, selling candy for the leukemia fund and Student Clouncil scholarship fund, and workin g at the November elec- tions.
