S J mucsrm ' an is l -Ji ' l Q Qzxwl ff J' , N 5 5 1 I ., ,- L - '47 REV. FATHER JOSEPH P. MORAN PRESIDENT November 27, 1963 My Dear Graduates: Let us thank God that He makes us live among is no longer permitted to anyone to be mediocref, Pope Pius XI, sum up the future goals and trials the present problems. It These words, spoken by of the modern graduate. Mediocrity has forever lost its place in our society-it has been replaced by the demand for excellence in leadership-morally, physically and mentally. You are entering the world of adulthood. You are the future leaders of a world that cries out for peace and tranquility. As true leaders, then, you may expect a lifetime of emulation and envy-reward and punishment. When you set the standard for the whole world, your reward is widespread recognition. Your punishment? You become a target for fierce denial, depreciation, detraction and envy. However, if your standard is merely mediocre, you will be severely left alone. No one will strive to surpass or to slander you unless your standard be stamped with the seal of genius. And do not forget, in accomplishing your goals, that success is measured only in terms of spiritual and not worldly riches, for, in the words of Our Saviour, XVhat doth it profit a man if he gain the whole world and suffer the loss of his own soul?', Your soul is a pearl of great price. Lose it and you have lost the game of life. Resolve now, dear graduates, that your plan of life will center on the saving of your soul for God. Select your career, your profession, your future state in life, with this thought in mind, Here is the path that, for me, leads to Codf, And may that path of yours be carpeted with velvet and lit by the eternal radiance of heavenly stars. Sincerely yours in Christ G? Reverend Father Joseph P. Moran President l18l
