N 'xfvwoxo I 958 The Memoir Published by the Students of Cardinal High School Middlefield, Ghio Champions All Cardinal High School will long remember the 1957-58 year. It was full of credit- able events leading to top recognition and acclaim in many areas. Also, it was full of experiences that those in the school will ever recall since they had the opportunity to share in those activities that led to outstanding results. Such achievements are not attributed to Lady Luck, even though she had good de- signs on Cardinal School. Rather, they are the end result of much concentration and effort in the form of much practice, cooperation, enthusiasm, and pride. If individuals participating were without these vital factors, championships would be a myth, only to be desired by chance or luck. A What has Cardinal High School accomplished this past year to be so proud of them- selves and to be envied by others? In the athletic world, the highlight of the undefeated fall season was the second consecutive Geauga County Football Championship. A slow beginning in basketball, followed by a long string of victories, culminated by winning the tournament cup and a trip to the district tournament, added to the athletic teams' record. Spring found the baseball team adding to the prowess of the boys, when it not only copped the baseball tournament, continuing with two more wins in the state toumament before suffering its only defeat of the season, but also, forthe third year running, took the Geauga County Crown without losing a single game. The girls, too, contributed in their realm of cheerleading by being voted as the outstanding group in the district basketball toumament. Such athletic records and titles will become tributes to Cardinal High for a long time. The music department sparkled in its achievements what with a marching, concert, and dance band along with a high school chorus. Displaying outstanding performances in their concerts and other presentations, the music organization of Cardinal looked and played like the champions they were. In the scholastic world, many an individual proved him or herself a champion by the high honors bestowed on them in competition in the county and state. Scholastic endeavors by the seniors led to top honors in the senior scholastic tests. Other students gained recognition in other competitive tests. And so on down the line, the Cardinal High School Student Body paraded its ability in this and that area, A proud but jtstly deserved recognition was given to those that participated and to those who stood behind each effort sharing with devoted spirit, loyalty, and enthusiasm. Championships may not always result in trophies, cups, medals, and certificates, but they will result in effort and spirit. Champions all in every challenge of life whether it be in school or outside of school, champions all in everything it does--win or lose--Cardinal High School has become this. 2 ,wv ' any K 1 f 70 '98 fx gl Q i ,.f- - W , x xi .iw ,:.1.: S ix ,VERY Q s N 3 Q 2 Q N., S i ,qi x i Q 4 n f . we , P9 X , 1 1 fi ' ,Q ui Q I W 5 - A 4 X RS' uf ,Bi VG X w -,,- .41 .QE . .,.' ,:.. in x N Q I '- -x W N. gf, . 1 A- Q08 Sw Cur Superintendent Mr. A. Starting in the late fall we sold Christmas cards and magazines to make money for our Senior trip but we were then sadly informed that we would not be able to go. On May 2 Sz 3, we put on a three -act comedy called Love is in the Air. Our prom was held at St. Mary's Hall in Orwell, Ohio, Our theme was Underwater Wonderland. The prom began at 8:30 P.M., and at 12:30 A.M. Stan Robertson, proprietor of the Mu-Mac Theatre, had a free show entitled My Man Godfrey for everyone. When the show ended at 3:30 A.M., everybody had a whole half hour to themselves and then Joe's All Night Cafe opened and served breakfast to one and all. 23 STN Wssig jx- . ., 13 x S W' ' 2. - . Y. Milanich The sophomores had a very fine year working, having fun, and making money. In the beginning of the year, they ordered their class ringsg half of the class got black onyx while the other half got white gold, which were equally as nice. Their candidate for the Carnival Queen was Geraldine Gotham. After a close and exciting ticket selling spree the sophomores edged out the fresh- men, and Geri reigned as Carnival Queen. Their main event of the year was a Twirp Twirl dance. Many girls took part by asking the boys and made the dance a great success. The freshmen had the largest enrollment in our school's history. This made it difficult for them to organize the classg nevertheless, class officers were elected and presided over their business meetings throughout the year. The class chose Marlene Skolaris as candidate for Carnival Queen and put up a hard fight against the upperclassmen. Initiation was carried off with great success. It consisted of a great bon- fire, pep rally, snake-dance, and skits put on by the freshmen. Of course, all senior's shoes were polished and shining by the end of the evening! 26 X Q APA x Sig? Traveling on to Fairport for the district tournament, they beat Grand Valley, but failed to pass Geneva Spencer for the finals. The cheerleaders took an active part in the great spirit of the team and spectators. They were honored at the Fairport District Tournament by receiving a beautiful trophy for the Best Cheerleaders of the Tournament. Cardinal High will long remember the spirit behind that rousing cheer, Go, Huskies, Beat em!
