Arthur Hansen became our superintendent in 1974, replacing Mr. Eugene Nasalroad. Prior to coming to Cardinal, he was the superintendent at Fort Madison for ten years. He became a superintendent of schools in 1940, and remained one for 37 years. He has been involved in education for 41 years. On June 30 his contract will expire. He will resign after 3 years at Cardinal. Mr. Hansen and his wife, Ruth, plan to travel. They will make their home at Fort Madison. Seniors Steve York Underclassmen Junior Class Each year the juniors raise money to pay for the traditional Junior-Senior prom and senior breakfast. This years juniors sold candles and calendars, using the money to buy decorations for the prom and hiring a band to perform. They also arranged for the senior breakfast to be held at the Elks Club in Ottumwa. Crowning Lynn Chickering. the 1977 Homecoming Queen, is the 1978 queen, Linda Warren. 64 The faculty skit for Homecoming featured a beauty contest. The lovely” contestants were Mr. Johnson. Mr. Crotty. and Mr. Coffman. Serving as escorts were Mr. Herman. Mr. Nelson, and Mr. Keller. Homecoming week was celebrated in variety of ways, for ex- ample T-shirt day, overalls day. and red and white day. A hall decorating contest was conducted between each of the four classes. The traditional bonfire was held outside followed by skits in the gym. Skits were per- formed by the student council, band, cheerleaders, and faculty. Activities were high lighted by the crowning of the Homecoming Royalty.
