Ms. Carol Swedberg Presented by the Comet Staff Title Page . . . 1 It has been said that every revolution was first a thought in one man's mind. The very foundation of this nation is built upon the thoughts and dreams of many such independent-spirited men. Every American has the right to plan and to imagine as guaranteed by the Constitution. These are the rights for which the patriots fought, and these are the rights each individual must defend. High schools play an important role as they give every student the opportunity to make his own choices. 2 . . . In this Bicentennial year, we are constantly reminded of our forefathers and their deeds. As stated by Lord Byron in 1821, The best prophet of the future is the past. We should all learn from and make use of the efforts of the patriots of the Revolution. They strove to make this country one founded on the principles of in- dependent thought and action. As the graduates make their plans for the future, they should remember that those heroes of the past have made this a land where they may pursue any ambition they desire. 8 . . . Throughout our country's history, thousands of clubs and activities have been organized to help satisfy each in- dividual's tastes. Thoreau said over a century ago, “If a man does not keep pace with his companion, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away. Cardinal's extra-curricular organizations were founded because a few students heard “a different drummer. Mr. Gene Dietrich and the rest of the coaching staff stir up some spirit at the Homecoming Bonfire festivities. Athletics play a vital part in many students' lives. Even back in the colonial days, sports were emphasized if they were of a body-building nature. The colonists par- ticipated in wrestling, basketball, and track. Today sports in school are encouraged not only for the development of the body but for the stimulation of the mind. From 1776 to 1976 athletics have grown with the country.
