In Appreciation Reverend Joseph In January Cardinal Spellman announced the appointment of Father O'Keefe, Dean of Studies, as the Managing Editor of the newly-proposed Catholic Students, Encyclopedia? Unfortunately this assignment necessitated his departure from Cardinal Hayes High School. When Father O'Keefe arrived here as a Biology instructor in September, 1953, he had completed post-graduate studies at Catholic University in Washington, D.C. and spent some time as a curate in St. Luke's parish. He immediately became active in the Catholic Science Council, serving for a term as its president. In September, 1956 he was named Dean of Studies. In this capacity he supervised the programming of the entire student body and nurtured the develop- ment of the Honors Program which had been instituted the year before. His oiiice was always open to those who sought advice or solutions to their academic problems. The Cardinals Calendar salutes Father O'Keefe for his contributions to the scholastic development of Hayes and wishes him the same success in his new endeavors. 13 O'Keefe
