DEDICATION . . . . to Monsignor Ziemcik The entire school was shocked on April 7 by the death of Monsignor Iolin W. Ziemak, head of the Music Department. Actually We had never greeted him as a monsignor, because it was during his last illness that Cardinal Spellman informed him that Our Holy Father had made him a papal chamberlain in his household. Monsignor Ziemak had supervised the musical activities of Hayes since the first year of our school operation. He was a talented musician who had mastered every instrument and an inspiring teacher who developed the musical ability of of thousands of students who sat in his classes. Through the Soiree Musicale Which' he produced every year, the fame of the Hayes aggregation became Widespread. The prominent people in the World of music who attended marvelled at the results Monsignor Ziemak accomplished. Because of his efforts the sight of the Hayes Parade Band always struck a responsive chord of enthusiasm inthe hearts of all who Watched as it marched up or down Fifth Avenue. I A No one will ever be able to think of music at Hayes Without recalling the man who was responsible for building an organization that commanded universal respect and admiration. His influence will continue to be felt in the future. In recognition of his labors and achieve- ments, the 1960 staff dedicates the Cardinal's Calendar to his memory,
