Curran and O'Donnell added second place points in the lOO-yard backstroke and 50- yard free-style events respectively. ln the National Catholic Meet Hayes crowned its first national champion in the per- son of Jerry Curran who won the lOO-yard backstroke. However, the medley team of Curran, Brennan and Miller was defeated for the first time, but took second place finishing about three-tenths of a second behind the pace-setters. Ever since Mr. Howard Borck took over the task ot coaching the Hayes Track teams, in- terest in the cinder path has increased and every year more hopefuls turn out to try for the teams. This year in the various meets they entered the Hayes harriers brought credit to themselves and to their Alma Mater. During the indoor season they entered the Stuyvesant meet, the Bronx Championships, the Bronx- Manhattan-Westchester meet in which they won everything, and the Catholic Champion- ships in which they were leading all the way until the last event. During the outdoor sea- son so far Hayes runners have been entered in the Seton Hall Relays, the Penn Relays where they took second place in the national two- mile relay, and the Brooklyn College meet where they won second place in the 880-yard relay and third in the mile relay. The printer's deadline does not permit a complete record, but the CALENDAR salutes Mr. Borck and Brother Claude for the fine job they have done in making Hayes one of the outstanding threats ln track' V MR.
