I I When the Class of I949 entered Hayes in September, l945, a new principal entered with them. For four years the present senior class and Monsignor Edward J. Waterson have worked together tor the advancement of the school, growing in stature as Men ot Hayes. In taking over the reins ot Hayes, the new principal brought with him a wide background in educational experience, For seventeen years he had been a professor of Latin at Cathedral College, the preparatory seminary of the archdiocese. For the year prior to his coming to Hayes he had been the arch- diocesan Secretary ot Education to His Eminence, the Cardinal, During our four years he has been to us a leader and a friend. He quickly absorbed the Spirit ot Hayes and encouraged every activity. He praised our progress and stimulated our scholarship. He mingled with us at all of our dances and rooted loyally for us at all of our games. Recently he was made a Domestic Prelate by His Holiness, Pope Pius XII in recognition for his outstanding work in education.
