D 7 This year again the Hayes Debating Society, under the supervision of Father Grace, played a prominent part in the program of the Catholic Forensic League. ln an interscholastic Debate Tournament sponsored by the League, Hayes acted as host to sixteen competing high schools and placed third with Anthony Andreacchi, Vincent Brennan, John D'Ambrosio and Edward Walsh winning four out of six debates. ln the course of the year they gained twenty- nine victories against sixteen losses in their debates with their annual op- ponents. The specific results are recorded on the following page. Hayes speakers were also heard at various civic functions. ln city-wide competition Vincent Capowski and Edward Walsh won two of the coveted Chairmanships in the New York Daily Mirror Forum held in December. Hayes was the only school to capture two of them. Anthony Andreacchi was one of two students from the Bronx and Manhattan to speak at the forum sponsored by St. John's University on the Atomic Era. He also appeared on the New York Times Youth Broadcast on April 23rd, discussing the topic, Vital Issues in the News. ln the Dramatic Declamation Contest of the Catholic Forensic League Vincent Brennan took fourth place, competing with sixteen other schools. The climax of the year's activities came on April 26th when the team of Anthony Andreacchi and Vincent Brennan defeated Xavier High School in the annual public debate in Brady Auditorium. 9

P 6044 Perhaps the most unsung activity of the school is the Poster Club. Under the direction of Father Totten its members work long, hard hours, preparing announcements of every Hayes activity. The suc- cess of plays, dances, games, skating parties and other affairs is due in no small way to the splendid efforts of these tireless workers who bring before the student body colorful and eye-catching adver- tisements of future events. lf you want it known, tell us, is their motto.
