Losing but one of their dual meets, the harriers came up to the big meets in the best of shape. ln the New York University cross-country inter-scholastics our junior varsity placed first among thirty-five schools, thus gaining our first cross-country trophy. ln the Manhattan College run a week later the junior varsity once again placed first, garnering our second trophy. In this same meet, the varsity placed fifth among 60 teams. The highlight of the season was the varsity's upset victory in the Bronx- Manhattan-Westchester championships. The team of Tom Lindgren, Harold Bates, James O'Connell, John Fitzgerald, and Bill Reichelt ran the race of their lives over the two-and-a- half mile course to defeat favored La Salle and Fordham Prep. ln this same meet our junior varsity swept the first nine places to overwhelm their competitors. Not to be outdone, our freshman team of J. Cleary, A. Lucas, H. Campbell, R. Cupples, R. Welborn, N. Baron, J. Lynne, J. Anderer, and W. Metress placed a close second to Rice in the team standings. Outstanding on the varsity team for the season were Tom Lindgren, Harold Bates, James O'Connell, John Fitzgerald, Bill Reichelt, Howard Scalone, John Kastberg, Edgar Lasting, Vincent Kelly, and William Raftery.
