541114 ' T it not unusual for a class to experience the death of one of its members during four years of high school, but we believe that five deaths are seldom suffered. God in His infinite Wisdom, however, summoned five members of the Class of i945 before their course was completed. Untimely are such deaths, people say, but God is no respecter of time or persons. The space of life between was over for them, and He took them to Himself. We have not forgotten them, and we shall continue not to forget them. They will always have a place in our prayers for we know that when they are beyond our aid, they will continue to intercede for us. May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace! ROBERT RICHARD CLANCY Born July I8, l926 Died June 8, I943 The death of Bob was a shock to his family and his friends, coming as it did the morning after the school boat ride in his sophomore year. Pop- ular, intelligent and athletic, he was a favorite with the members of 2J, his home room. His sudden death made a deep impression on them since they had spent such a jolly time with him only the day before. WILLIAM RAYMOND FONZO Born February IO, 1928 Died November 22, I944 Bill's death was also unexpected inasmuch as he had started for school on the day it occurred, but the pains of an acute appendectomy forced him to return home. His friendly, witty ,disposi- tion had endeared him to all his classmates during their four year association. His goodness and character are epitomized in the fact that he was ever faithful in rising early to serve Mass in his parish church before coming to school. 22

THOMAS JOSEPH DOWNES Born March 29, 1928 Died April 5, 1944 Tom was a member of the class of 3D when he died after a brief siege of spinal meningitis, a few days before Easter in his junior year. His quiet, respectful manner was noted by his teachers and admired by his classmates. His special interest in music was developed in the Con- cert Band of which he was a faithful member. His wil- lingness to help in any enterprise was indicative of his good-natured disposition. I RICHARD MARTIN PURCELL Born November 9, 1927 Died February 9, 1945 Quiet and reserved, Dick was well-liked by his classmates of 4F who were saddened by the news of his death. His diligence in studies was rewarded by the success he enjoyed scholastically, and his popularity was reflected in the esteem in which his fellow students held him.
