lweee' OACHED by Brother Timothy, the Jayvee basketball squad had a very successful i944-45 season, win- ning fifteen of their eighteen games and coming close to snatching the league championship. ln a close tilt they lost to the Stanners of St. Ann's and had to be con- tent with second place. lt seems that the Stanners are developing into a menace for our Jayvee team since last year, they also defeated us in an upset play-off for the championship. The little Cardinals played excellent ball all sea- son, however, defeating such able teams as Xavier, Regis, Fordham, Mount St. Michael, Power, La Salle and Rice. The team of Bedford, Dwyer, Finn, Haywood and McCar- thy quickly broke into a hard fast game and usually ran up high scores against their opponents. Bailey, Muiri, Tambini, Thomas and Trainor were very capable substi- tutes who rendered valuable assistance when called upon. A combination of teamwork and courage proved to be the key to the success the squad enjoyed. lt was -the first season Brother Timothy coached the team. Last year he served as mentor of the sophomore team. He deserves great praise for the results he a- chieved and looks forward to a championship team next year.
