Coached by Brothers Emil, La Salle and Lucas, their grid cam- paign was an enjoyable surprise to the many followers of the team. Undefeated in Junior Varsity competition and suc- cumbing only to the Mount's second and third stringers, they featured a good ground game grinding out yardage on offense and their opponents on defense. Although teamwork was the predominant factor in their success, the junior Redbirds had many outstanding players Among those who merited promotion to a varsity status were Marino, an excellent center whose skill at place-kicking after a touchdown brought his rise, Federico, whose slippery-hipped touchdown runs found favor with the coaches, and Ryan an expensive back whose speed is held in high esteem by both football and track coaches. Besides them, others who are sure to achieve prominence next year are Stramiello, Perry, Barris and Roe. Such an auspicious beginning for the Jayvee football team augurs well and gives us the assurance of larger, more experienced varsity squads in the future. 158
