Alas Door Yorlckv' l44 PATRICIANS HE final performance of Hamlet on April 27th concluded the most successful year of the Hayes Dramatic Society to date. Under the presidency of Frank Tuoti '45 this group began its '44-'45 season with an original play, Life Again. This comedy, dealing with the home life of the Hayes student, was written and directed by the moderator, the Reverend Thomas A. Dunn. The Reverend Patrick O'Flaherty construct- ed the sets and the Reverend Edwin Broderick was the capable business manager. The show was a popular success. Besides adding sizeably to the activities fund, it brought forth the talent that was to shine so noticeably in Hamlet, Gerard McLaughlin, Arthur Meredith, Jim Lyon, Frank Tuoti and James La Manna, all of Senior Year, turned in memorable performances. Jim Lyon was th spring of '45 and during his term Hamlet reached the boards of Hayes. With this Shakesperean presentation the society went back to its early tradition and gave two plays in one year, a comedy and a serious drama. ln both shows the Patricians drew female talent from two Bronx Catholic High Schools. St. Simon Stock provided the talented girls for Life Again, and Aquinas Hall lent its stars for the tragedy of the melancholy Dane. ln thus drawing on the girls' schools Hayes claims another 'first.' The Patricians and their moderator bid an affectionate farewell to the greatest collection of stars in Hayes history. William Powell '46, the incoming president, hopes that the new year will furnish talent comparable to Jerry lvlcLaughlin's Frank Barrett and Hamlet, Artie lvleredith's Harry West and Claudius, Jim Lyon's Eddie Kavanagh and Horatio John M t' ' , ar in s Slim and Polonius, and Frank Tuoti's Bill Barrett. 1 POSTER CLUB F you want it known, tell it to the Poster CIub. That's the motto of this active, self-ettacing group which has done a splendid service for the many other clubs of l-layes. lt takes a great deal of advertising to acquaint the many students with the variety of activities which take place in the course of the year, and the Poster Club, under the su- pervision ot Father Loughman, did its job well. On the shortest possible notice they produced attractive, eye-catching posters. They are also responsible for decorating the Christmas tree, setting up the Crib and caring tor the bulletin boards. Besides informing the student body of the numerous goings-on, the club sti- mulates the desire for perfection among its members by monthly competitive ex- hibitions at which prizes are awarded the designers of the best posters. Credit must be extended to all the twenty-tive active members of this club who during the year receive no plaudits whatever.
