The meetings of the twenty-odd mem- rs on Friday afternoons have been con- rned chiefly with lectures and discus- :ns on Italian art and culture. Credit must be extended to James La- anna who, as the club's first president, id the groundwork on which the organ- ation will lean in future years. A con- itution and by-laws have been drawn J and officers elected in the efficient anner in which all Hayes activities are aerated. Clubs in other schools were mntacted, and the views exchanged frved to stimulate a greater interest nong the club's members. As the Ca- ndar goes to press, plans are being armed for an Italian Night at Hayes Jring the week of May lO which will 'own the achievements of this activity i its inaugural year. eww em FTER the mid-year examinations the Classical Club was organized, under the guidance of Father Nolan, with a view toward spending the rest of the school year in two main fields of activity, one, an introductory study of the Creek language, and the other, the completion of a project in the form of an attack upon a walled town by Roman troops. Those who are engaged in the study of Creek are the members who attained an average of 85? or more, those engaged in the project have an average ten points lower than their more learned brothers. This year membership in the Classical Club has been restricted to students of Freshman Latin. Next year, however, the club hopes to expand numerically and academically, thus integrating a greater number of students in another aspect of the cultural life of Hayes. i i3i
