Whether it be a group of Sister Camillus's physicists attacking an experiment on linear ex- pansion. some of Father Foster's fishermen pre- paring for the annual mutilation of frogs. a gathering of Father Schmidt's atomic energy en- thusiasts fascinated by structural models of helium atoms, or one of Sister Virginia Maria's lwotanists priming her classmates on the transpor- tation system of a garden carrot-all aspire to the same end: an in-the-know feeling on the fundamentals of science in an atomic age. Part of that understanding comes from the study of the lives of other men. of their manner of action in situations which. on a smaller scale, the student may one day face himself. History. then. is not a partially forgotten lists ing of lcings and presidents. but rather an engrossing reading of man's constant struggle to overcome his shortcomings. to rise toward goodness and human per- fection. in spite of past failures. To add further to the panic over the importance of science in our day would be useless. Like all other subjects. it is a vital part of the educa- tion of the total man. This much praise we can give to our alma mater, without false pride: One of the advantages of a large school is an equally large variety of class equipment. Both in equipment. methods, and teachers. CD is in step with the battle cry of our age: Give us better science students. And this is the stamen of the flower. points out Sister Agnes Frances. to a group of freshmen in hen general science class. Anne Finkelston.
