. .TEN YEARS That Ninth Grade was a reality before we had room for it, and we all waited patiently for the new Junior High building. The walls went up in the summer of 1970. Our first Ninth Grade was a Very special group. I remember we had to use a small tutoring room as a classroom while we waited for the new building. Was it crowded! Sometimes the pile of books on the table got so high that we could hardly see Mr. Jones. And by June, 1973, we have had three Ninth Grades, and Laurie Cameron and Tom Smallcomb are the first students to be able to say, We remember ten years at Carden Hall!

There were seventeen marvelous graduates, and they could all fit on a stage made on top of the planter out- side Mrs. Gilbert's window. By September, 1967, the school had grown so much that we needed more classroom space. A new wing was added, removing our lunch area but giving us six more classrooms, an art room, and a new music room. At the dedica- tion ceremony, we expressed our gratitude to Miss Carden for her method and to the Donald Griswold family for having enough confi- dence in a young school to put up buildings for us. Thank Heaven, growth and prog- ress never stop, and in September 1970, we added our first Ninth Grade class with the mighty dozen!
