In the voyage 10 f1D1Sh1Dg Emma June Class Histor year of 1944, several scared f1rSt graders started the1r long the Carbondale pub11c school Of that number f1ve of us are together They are Jerry F1nlay, JoAnn Ganger, Tommy Mercer Waetz1g, and Johnny Juarez Wlth the help of the former M1ss Gladys Base we successfully moved onward to the second grade Here we were to learn that Mrs Bertha Dawson was the ruler Th1s was the year we ga1ned two of our classmates, Wayne Chaffln and J C Sh1vely We now Journeyed 1nto grade 3, where we met M1ss Lett1e Ph11l1ps as our teacher After a very Wlth M1SS Ph1111ps as Under the gu1dance Stern as our teacher, we gaxned another of our successfully reached the In the seventh grade, wonderful year we ere promoted to the fourth grade our teacher agaln Mr Herbert, we entered the flfth grade W1th Mr Jolned the s1xth grade It was dur1ng th1s year that present classmates, Darrell Va11 Now we had JUDIOY h1gh school stage 1D our career w1th Mr W1111S as the sponsor, Jerry Buchhe1m Jolned us We moved on to the e1ghth grade, where Mrs McCarthy became our sponsor Esther and Howard Rowe became members of our group, and we rece1ved our grade school d1plomas W1th h1gh hopes for the future, we entered h1gh school Here we welcomed back Sharon Oberle and Roma Claar, who had formerly been w1th us 1n the th1rd and fourth grades We also added Mary Jolly to the roll of our class mates We elected as class off1cers Darrell Vail, Presldent Sharon Oberle v1Ce Pres1dent Jerry Buchhe1m, Secretary Treasurer John Juarez, Reporter and Jerry F1nlay, Student Counc1l Representat1ve At th1s stage we had t undergo the tr1als of be1ng 1n1t1ated by the gunlors 1nto h1gh school Urhlaub was class sponsor In the follow1ng year we knew what to expect The class off1cers were Pres1dent, Jerry Buchhe1m, V1ce Pres1dent, Jerry F1nlay, Secretary Treasurer Sharon Oberle, Reporter, Pat Elder, and Student Counc1l Representat1ve, Darrell Va11 Our sponsor was Mr Henry Now we were C1aSS1f1ed as upperclassmen, w1th Mrs Morgan and Mr S1lv1a as our sponsors We planned the 1n1t1at1on of the scared freshmen, the sale of magazlnes our Jun1or Play, whlch was Playlng The F1eld and the Jun1or and Sen1or Banquet w1th the Hep Cats as our theme In the year of 55 we beg1n to a close Our enrollment was were Pres1dent, Sharon Oberle Treasurer, Roma Claar, Student to real1ze our high school days were com1ng now seventeen Our class offlcers for the year V1ce Pres1dent, Jerry F1nlay Secretary and Counc1l Member JoAnn Ganger Sponsors, Mr w11COX and Mr S11V1a Our play 'Mystery In The L1brary was to be g1ven on Apr11 13, 1956 We were guests of honor at the Jun1or Sen1or Banquet Later events were to be the sen1or tr1p, Baccalaureate, Class N1ght, and Commencement Th1s closes the story of the class of 1956 A ' 7 ' of .
