English The English teachers at Captain Shreve took great pride in making English a challenging, ver¬ satile, and rewarding experience. In English I, students worked on the general overview of major authors. In English II, III, and IV, they studied World, American, and English authors respectively. At each of these levels, grammar, composition, and research skills were taught. In AP English, students learned to write with variety using diction and sentence patterns. Creative Writing and Novels were included in the English department. In Creative Writing, students wrote sketches, poetry, short stories, children’s literature, scripts, and a number of other things in the semester course. Another semester course offered was Novels, in which students covered major philosophical and stylistic trends in World literature from the industrial revolution to the present. 1. MS.
