Students Explore Literature Not only was grammar stressed at Shreve, but the study of literature was also an important aspect of all English classes. Different themes in stories, poems, and novels helped students learn about the social world around them. Freshmen were in¬ troduced to classical plays such as Romeo and Juliet, sophomores read a wide variety of literature, while juniors concentrated on American historical works, and seniors studied world literature. The faculty of English teachers widened student knowledge of literature. 1. MS. LILLIAN MOCH ... English II, III, IV .. B.S.. Grambling State Univ. 2. MRS. HOLLY NICHOLLS ... English I, Civics ... Social Studies Deepens Knowledge Of The World The social studies courses offered at Shreve gave students the opportunity to explore customs and traditions from throughout the world. Learning about the customs of many other coun¬ tries helped to increase the students’ outlook of other countries and allowed them to compare them to our own. No matter what course the student took, it helped them to understand the ever- changing world. ABOVE: Sharon Collins, Lauren Teague, and Jim Holland learn how to study and enjoy Civics.
