Students Explore Literature Not only was grammar stressed at Shreve, but the study of literature was also an important aspect of all English classes. Different themes in stories, poems, and novels helped students learn about the social world around them. Freshmen were in¬ troduced to classical plays such as Romeo and Juliet, sophomores read a wide variety of literature, while juniors concentrated on American historical works, and seniors studied world literature.
