Assistant Principals Have Many Jobs Due to the promotion of Miss McCalla to principal, Captain Shreve received a new assistant principal — Mr. Tommy Powell. Mr. Powell worked with Shreve’s other assistant principal. Mr. Donald Horton. Mr. Horton’s duties involved direct contact with the students. He administered the parish attendance policy, coordinated school activi- ties, and enforced the discipline code. Upon moving into his new' role. Mr. Powell assumed the duties of scheduling, the hiring of substitute teachers, the selection of textbooks, and the supervision of teachers. Our New Principal — A Familiar Face This past school year. Captain Shreve gained a new principal. Miss Sandra McCalla. Miss McCalla, a former teacher of advanced math, calculus, and computer programming, served as assistant principal of Captain Shreve for two years. With this experience, the transition from one job to the other was made easier. As seen this past school year, the job of being the main leader of Captain Shreve High School was car- ried out most effectively with dignity and con- trol by Miss McCalla. Throughout the year.
