In addition to taking a regular English course, in which grammar and literature were taught, students could also have chosen journalism, creative writing, speech, drama, humanities, or novels classes. These classes helped students to become better writ¬ ers and to express themselves more clearly. Literature was defined by one teacher as the “FBI”: the Facts of life, the Beauty of life, and the Interpretation of life. English might have appeared as a boring task but, throughout the years, students realize how beneficial it really was.

Social Studies Students Gain Knowledge The Social Studies classes at Captain Shreve were busy this year learning about our coun¬ try’s past and present history. Students had a chance to express and exchange their opinions on current and past events. Social Studies consisted of a wide variety of subjects including American History, Geogra¬ phy, Free Enterprise and many others.
