The Library Is a Nice Place The librarians at Captain Shreve always maintained a quiet and relaxed atmosphere. Miss Ramsey and Mrs. Valore administered a library program that provided all types and kinds of instructional resources for students and faculty. Mrs. Davis took care of all the cleri¬ cal duties. The librarians received some help from the library workers who chose Library Science for credi t or volunteered during their study hour. The library held an abundance of books, up- to-date magazines, vertical files, and reference books. Study carrels were available for catch¬ ing up on classwork or using reference books. Conference rooms provided a place where stu¬ dents could work together without disturbing others. A new addition to the library this year was a XEROX machine. With its comfortable lounge chairs, good books, and green plants: the library was just a nice place to be. MRS. ROSE DAVIS . . . Library Secretary . . . B.A.. La. Tech Univ. English Can Be Work All students at Captain Shreve took a foreign language better known as English. Freshmen and sophomores took English I and English II in which they expanded their grammar skills and vocabulary. They also studied various styles of short stories, novels, and poetry. English III dealt primarily with American literature dating before the American Revolution through the present day. Seniors could take English IV in which they learned about literature from Eng¬ land. English was one of the most vital subjects taught at Captain Shreve. It prepared students for their future needs, whether their plans included college or a vocational career. MRS. GAYE GANNON . . . English IV, Journalism . . . B.A., La. Tech Univ. . . .
