Assistant Principals Coordinate Activity 26 LOG The primary responsibility of the assistant principals this year, was to aid in the preparation of student and teacher activities. Returning this year as assistant principal, was Mr. Donald Hor¬ ton. Miss Sandra McCalla began her first year as assistant principal, replacing Mrs. Helen Dear during her leave of absence. Miss McCalla worked closely with the faculty, scheduling classes, observing classroom instruc¬ tion, selecting textbooks, and planning teacher in-service programs. Mr. Horton’s duties involved direct contact with the students. He coordinated the activities of student organizations, super¬ vised athletic events, and enforced student disci¬ pline. Together, the assistant principals worked diligently to handle school affairs smoothly and efficiently.

Mr. Powell Is Respected by All Captain Shreve High School is known for always having the best, and that includes having the best of principals — Mr. Stanley Powell. Mr. Powell is looked up to and admired by all of the students he encountered. He worked not only as an administrative principal, but sometimes as a substitute teacher when needed, a spirited booster at pep rallies, or a counselor that dis¬ cussed student problems. His was a familiar, happy face around the school, concerned with the needs and interests of all the students at Cap¬ tain Shreve. Mr. Powell enjoyed attending ball games, plays, concerts and other school functions, and loved being with his family and friends or partici¬ pating in outdoor activities. His next years as principal will be even more achievement-filled than the last. TOP LEFT: Mr. Powell chats with an English class.
