For some of us, this becomes a reality as our senior year ends. For the first time we realize how much Caprock and our friends mean to us. For the first time we look at life seriously and talk to our friends of feelings and love. These are the times when we are close to each other, These are the times we'll never forget. 'Y S. . Time is spent during and often after school into the late evening on these so that they may reach the students at the sched- uled time. First year journalism students learn about publications and think about being a part of the staffs next year. The newspaper is issued 12 times throughout the year. The yearbook contains 208 pages full of exciting school events. Wwjliifjif Swimming 53 Girls End Season ndefeatedp a B Building Year for the Boys This is the first year the swimming team has had a roster large enough to compete in all of the events. The girls swim team has done well this year. The girls have won all of their dual meets and usually place their free relay and medley relay in the finals at large invitational meets. The girls team this year is larger and stronger than the boys team. All of the boys team are first year swimmers, so this had been a building year for them. Coach Bob Link feels that the lack of their success is dup to very few students trying out. Swimming has many different races. They are as follows: 220 yd. medley relay, 200 yd. frees- tyle, 200 yd. individual medley, 50 yd. freestyle, 1-meter diving, 100 yd. butterfly, 100 yd. frees- tyle, 500 yd. freestyle. 100 yd. backstroke, 100 yd. breaststroke and the 400 yd. free relay. Our swim team has many outstanding girls. Mary Wetmore is the team's highest scorer in dual and invitational meets. Wetmore is an outstanding freestyle swimmer and is a good diver. Dinah Elkins is the fastest freestyle swimmer on the team and is a member on the free relay. Phyllis Evans has the record in the individual medley. Cathy Clemens was the team's best dis- tance freestyler, and an excellent butterflyer for a relay. Deanna Nichols was the team's best breaststroker and holds the school record in the 100 yd. breaststroke. Lynne Iohnson was the team's best backstrokeli. Iohnson was a member of both relays with school records. The boys swimmers and divers include: Damon Akins fdivingl, Hal Pierson fbackstroker and freestylel, Kerry Pierce findividual medley, backstroker and distance freestylel, Tony Snider fswan all eventsl, Iohn Elkins fsprint freestylel, and Robert Ralston 1100 and 200 yd. freestylej. Unlike the past, the boys' cross country was coached by Don Carper. Last year the boys were coached by Iohn McGuire, but due to the fact that he is the athletic director, the boys are now coached at their own schools. The UIL rules have changed this year. Last year, to qualify for region- als you had to be in the top ten peo- ple or the top three teams. This year, the top five people and top two teams qualified for regionals. Due to this change, the girls narrowly missed sending Kim Gonzales to Regionals. Gonzales placed sixth in district. Both the girls and boys cross coun- try teams were small again this year.
