For freshmen, senior status is a flag waving in the distance, promis- ing a challenging balance of work and achievement. For sophomores it is a prize which has drawn one year closer. Ituis no longer the re- mote possibility, it has become the attainable goal. For iuniors the word SENIOR is a clearly defined, tangible reward, iust a few short months ealization. For seniors, their final designa- tion reaped from twelve years of endeavor is a badge of accomplish- ment, a trophy which symbolizes their most coveted public school achievement. - The T968-69 La Saga proudly an- nounces The Seniors as its theme, not because it singles out a separate group, but because this theme rep- resents the ever beckoning summit which all high school students strive to attain. The work, the laugh- ter, the tears, the dreams, the small failures, and the large successes, all of these treasures which intertwine to weave the fabric of memories, go into the process from which seniors evolve. It is The one worthy status symbol of which all underclassmen dream. Senior rings are held in such high esteem That They become Tokens of steady dating, since The relinquish- ing of one's class ring is considered one of The most unseltish acts of devotion. - T 5 . A step for- ward to a brighter, new tomorrow. An attempt to make this last year the best. These are only a few of the many mixed emotions brought on by the final year. lt is the end of twelve years spent in many activi- ties, many long hours of study, and many periods of doubt and self- analysis. lt is a time for pondering in amazement how nine months could pass so quickly. lt is a time of change from the familiar old to the awesome new. lt is a time for looking back and a time for looking forward. Display Spirit Caprock is known for its great school spirit. In athletic and aca- demic competition alike, Longhorns back their school TOO per cent. Many organizations helped create school spirit. The cheerleaders were present at all pep rallies and at many sports events. The Student Council sold spirit ribbons for every football game and Y-Teen members sold Longhorn flags. The Hi-Y spon- sored El Toro, Caprock's first mascot. But the group most responsible for that fighting Longhorn spirit was the student body. Without their loyal .support there would have been no school spirit. They supported the football team through victory and defeat. They were proud of the band, the debate team, and everyone else who represented Cap- rock. This is what is known as the Spirit of the Orange and the Pride of the White. r ! Mixers were held after several home games. Various Interests Caprock students found several differ- ent ways to make use of their spare time. After 3:35, many students still had long athletic practices before them. Others had club meetings to attend. But most went home to relax and maybe watch television before starting in on hours of homework. Weekends were a welcome break from school routine. Such things as football games, basketball games, track meets, and dances were attended by most Caprock students. Sundays were filled with leisure- ly picnics and coke dates. Sunday nights were set aside for last minute assignments. 1 Seniors Jimmy Hansen and Jess Fleming go through the ritual required of all football players. ii r z r , I i 1 -57 W1,' A 2 W- - ' -'k', . Longhorns welcomed assemblies as they provided an escape from homeroom. Assemblies were held for many reasons. Pep rallies were held every Friday during football season. Freshmen pep rallies were held in the gym every Thursday morning during homeroom. Many special assemblies were held throughout the year. Among these were assemblies for election of class officers, a Christmas assem- bly, a fashion show for the girls, the Sadie Hawkins assembly, and the Senior Day skit. With the aid of rulers, slide rules, and graphs, a student of math can answer any problem he undertakes. At Caprock, courses in related math, algebra, geometry, trigonom- etry, math analysis, and data pro- cessing are offered. Data processing is a new course at Caprock. With the rising use of computers, it is a very valuable course to take. Through this school year 1968-69, many memories have formed which will never be forgotten. The year book staff has made an attempt in capturing a few of these moments. Many hours have been spent as well as the effort put into it, in trying to make this the best La Saga yet. Although, without the guidance, pa- tience, and understanding of this year's editors and sponsor, this could not have been accomplished. We, the staff would like to express our thanks and appreci- ation by dedicating the closing pages to Pam Davis, editor, Nelda Roberts, assistant editor, and Mr. Garmon, sponsor.
