Dedication: She Came To Capitol Hill In 1937 . The 1962 CI-IIEFTAIN is dedicated to an instructor who came to Cl-ll'lS twenty-five years ago, and leaves with class of '62, Thousands of girls have learned basic nutri- tion, food preparation, child guidance, home nursing, and home decoration from her during the last two and a half decades. When she leaves this spring, she takes with her memories of years when she sponsored the Ki Yi Pep club. Chief among the out-of-state trips made in the l940's was the chartered train trip to Mexico City which she sponsored. Unusual classroom happenings will also be standouts in her memories. For example, there's the time that the wall cabinet crashed to the floor during a class . . . smashing china, crystal, and silver service, and leaving behind a very nervous teacher. Or perhaps she will remember the time, just this year, when half the coffee pot disappeared after a luncheon served to the principals. That mystery is still unsolved. RESOURCE PERSONS are often invited to Miss Smithis classes to give demonstrations such as this one on flower arrangement by a local florist. Probably her most heart-warming memories will be of those students whom she has pre- pared for places as home economists, home- makers, wives, and mothers. A knowledge of their happiness and success will be her reward for years dedicated to helping them. If 'Kwork is love made visiblei' then surely Miss Blanche Smith has bestowed a great deal of love on her students in the last quarter of a century. Miss Smith, as you leave the I-Iill, we want to join the ranks of those who say i'We're glad you came to Cl-ll-lS. Come back to see us oftenln TAKING the silver service from the cabinet is a part of the routine preceding every tea or reception given by the foods classes. 13
