what lflyas urs: FORE ORD Every American student in every American highschool insists his school is the very best in the land. He is sure that nowhere else in the world are such warm friendships made, such splendid courses taught, such thrilling games played, such unique pleasure enjoyed. Yet, even as he makes such rash statements, he knows that in hundreds of other schools, over the length and breadth of the land, other warm friendships flourish, other courses are offered, other thrilling games are won or lost, and other unique pleasures are measured. What, then, may a yearbook staff set forth as pe- culiarly personal to its own student body? What, then, was ours alone? No matter what other schools might possess, this 1951 Chieftain belongs to us alone. lts pages mirror life at Capitol Hill High School. That is a good life in a good school. Years spent in a modern school plant, instruction ac- quired from a well-trained and understanding faculty, games cheered for wonderful teams, pleasures, great and small, savoured day in and day out . . . this, truly, was ours.
