To capture these and put them into some , P 6 permanent form, for memory's sake, is the purpose of this , X- yearbook. I sig i Today this school year of 1947-1948 is fresh and clear in 5, Q f our minds' eye, but with passing time we shall need some- gf 5 thing tangible to bring it all back to us-the familiar smell Q NN f of chalk dust and varnished desks, of hot food, in the 3, ,NRI sg noise-filled cafeteria, for ravenous appetites at the sound Noi 5 gr ' S of the lunch bells, of popcorn at friendly get-togethers at E H F the Kiwanis Youth Center and of formal dances, complete ' Q with orchids, at the Mirror Room, of earthy and sweaty - X- NL' l E bodies at the close of a thrilling ball game, of whittled si gf? wood in the shops and boiling fudge in the home econom- h ics rooms. . 49 'A' f As with thick cords of stout rope are the many fragments S. 0 . ' G Q. f of the school bound into one consummate whole. No part ,- .A is without significance and the whole is the sum of all its , '-E NR p parts. f la The spool unwinds to reveal the games we won and lost, 5 F the courses we took, the parties and dances we gave and , T' Ck attended, the plays we saw and acted, the friends we made I 5 is y and the honors we won. , 5 . And we, like events, are most influ- ', enced by the people who touch our lives. A beautiful building, fine equipment, and excellent mate- rials may be, and undoubtedly are, great aids in helping us make the most of our educational. opportunities here in 1? highschool, but the single greatest factor in assisting us to ' 5 develop our potential capacities and make use of the ex- ' cellent school plant rovided for us, is our instructional 'W ., P In -'W Vi? force. It is that force which guides and directs our talents 5, L and makes us aware of these ultimate realities. X yi' From human relationships come most of the moments we ' , D X pl? cherish From them we get more knowledge of and more ixku insight into this amazing and confusing world than we are .able to acquire from our most ponderous books. From Q them we derive companionship and friendship, guidance 4 ' ' and personal help, moral support and a wealth of sound ii' R advice. From them we learn something of our obligations , 'to ourselves .and our community, something of the drama 5 'kg and satisfaction of service to others. For their help and understanding and for the service they l perform as a part of the strong cord which binds us to ' l ' them, to each other, and to Capitol Hill Highschool, we i. Second band at CHHS inherited the uniforms dis- carded by the first band at the end of a big money-rais- ing cmpaign, which included a football game with El Dorado, Arkansas. The second hand-f playing second fiddle regularly4+helps swell the music. The second band has its own Drum Major and its own Band Queen. The organization, a year ago, of a Twirler's Club was followed up this year with the creation of a Drum and Bugle Corps. The white and gold of the uniforms makes a bright contrast to the dark red of the new band uniforms. Regarded by many. and by all CHHS ad- herents fwho are noted for their partiality to their ownj as the prettiest aggregation of its kind anywhere hereabout.
