So the class of '4Q is leaving many things to the old school, but we are not leaving everything. We are taking with us some things that belong to us alone. Memories are ours olf great football and basketball games, dances and parties, happy and unhappy days in the cassroom, and many friendships. The weeks have passed slowly, but the years have slipped by almost without notice. We are leaving. you now, .but always in our minds there will be thoughts of our school and gvehwlgl forever be interested in the development of a better and greater Capitol Hill High c oo . So in farewell, we say C. H. H. S. we love you! cum of 1946 By Troy Taylor, Attorney 4 15 ,, QQD?? V 4+ ,, qt an ei p onlin: , 1 4 D 4 J L , . A, ,.--i,,,sgrsm lf w 'Q - A 4 B new h 4 3 C, . Every day in the halls of our Alma Mater and among the illustrious ranks of the student body, you have witnessed, .unknowingly perhaps, the greatest circus on earth. Amid the laugh- ter, the gay hilarity, the hubbub of our circus life' here, you have seen, without charge of ad- mission price: the freaks, the clowns, the strange animals who compose this senior class. But the old gang is breaking up, the performance is nearly over. After this last curtain falls on the grand finale, the Great Cast will be scattered by the winds of Fate. Whither will they come to rest? Let us, in this quiet moment of contemplation, draw aside the veil of the Future. Let us look ahead of the Present, let us push beyond the magic gates Time and visualize the Big Top of tomorrow. 1956! We see E. C. McGhee smile broadly indeed As he rides thru Japan on a milk-white Steed, His mission is mercy, his helm is brimmin' As he shows slant-eyed gals God's Gift to Women. Ernestine Hayden's still looking for knowledge, fThis makes her tenth year at a Boys' Town College! The subject is hard to master, you see- She's developing a good 'personalityf' And stalwart Bob Bumpas, fair child of Science, fWho would rule the world with his Big One Alliance? . Sits alone on an isle, reading Shelley and Homer While his eyes wander after a lady beachcomber. A school-marm now is Janie Creech, She has a big class of all-boys in Speech, She nags and she teaches and swears she is thru Because she can't get one to say I do. A beauty contest comes-into view, The legs are familiar, but the face is new, In bright purple shorts and chest, 0, so hairy- It comes to us now-Jimmie Fortenberry! Gloria Hall's still fickle and free, She loves three sailors, but she can't marry three! So her life rushes on-one long, gay whirl, O, envy the life of a bachelor girl! On this earth Tom Field has a sacred trust, And a slogan, too-it's Mars or Bust. His rocket ship's oiled and all ready to go, There's only one drawback-rockets cost dough. Wanda Tettleton, holder of many-a crown, Has just won another of fame and renown, She, from among all the other slick chicks, Was chosen Miss Cookson Hills-1956? Don Zachary's record is hard to beat As youngest admiral in the U. S. fleet, He drinks only soft drinks, for he's on the wagon, And it's 'cause of the medals, if his chest's sligh tly saggin'. The 'Kings' still rule. In their plastic palace There's Bette, Pat, and Mary Alice, But lord over all-like some glorified Bing, ln majestic splendor reigns Ernie King. Wayne Lutke, among other masterful things, Pilots a B-24, a hotel on wings, He bought it cheap and started reconversion, Now he flies hither and yon on some mad excursion Mary Lou Jones, former Capitol Hill belle, ls a successful barmaid on his flying hotel, When asked why shoe chose this vocation, her reply Was, l'd always wanted to see a bar-fly. We see a desert and camels on which men are ridin', And 'neath waving palms, we see Tommy Swyden, He's getting rich fast and really going places As toll collector at the only oasis! Peggy Cable, lady politician, Found you can't be elected by just sittin' and wishin'3 But she smiled in the midst of near slipping a cog When she found she had lost to dauntless Dick Ogg. Ralph Niles Hunter fbetter known Atom-smasheri ls scaring his wife with a promise to bash herg He's raging and stomping for she just washed his duds Not in pure Ivory Snow-but in Super Suds! Billie Slay is married and has children galore- Child prodigies crawling all over the floorg They'll start a university when the kids are all grown, With faculty consisting of the family alone. Television is here at last! And in honor Don Linn flies his tie at half-mast, He's director now of a huge radio station, His commercials are famous throughout all the nation. Clara Belle Thompson has triumphed at last, The ceremony's over and the knot is tied fast, She's finally hooked that sailor named Jack: He's s little fish, Clara Belle-throw his back! Harold Tyree is still celebrating- He's surprised 'till yet at graduating, His time is spent at one place and another, But 2 to l, it's not with his mother. Strange as it seems, our own Feriba Pate, Thru some seeming twist of ironical fate, ls second girl, center, in a colorful burlesque- She's come a long way from her schoolbooks and desk E. C. Stewart, with a physique like a dream, Former 'Gravel Gertie of the Redskin team, Who scattered our foes both goin' and comin', Turns pale with the fear of ,the little woman. ! Betty Miller's having the time of her life, She's Tommy Manville's fourteenth wife- As a married couple they seem quite happy, He calls her 'Sweetie-face and she calls him Pappy. Jack McBride is a peanut vender When his work's all done, he goes out on a bender, He starves his children and beats his wife, And is a firm believer in the simple life. Maxine Coleman fainted from surprise Upon finding she'd won a husband as 'Bank-nite' prize 'This is O. K., she chortled, this is really 'groovy'. Now every evening she goes to the movie. Gene Rowland and patient Mrs Adaline Ball Have stayed here together. The years of roll-call Have not made him better in any of his studies, But now he and his teachers are all bloody-buddies. Della Schroeder is an airplane hostess, She got the firstest, with the mostestf' That she missed her calling remains quite clear- Her looks and jokes should've had a stage career. B. ,l. Edwards now has a wife named Doris, And has replaced Johnny calling for Phillip Morrisg When Johnny kicked off, with no more of his clan, They saw B. J. and said, That's our man! Virginia Johnson tried her hand as a clerk, But as time went by, it just didn't workg Now she gives out sweet, and she gives out hot, As featured torch-singer in a gay nite-spot. A lucky fellow is Carl Ward- A honey-colored convertible now graces his front yard: He modestly says, with his eyes on the floor, I did it all with my grocery store. Grace Scott, the gal who vowed never to marry, Is at long last wed to a missionary: They both live in Tulsa and spend every day In converting the natives who were fool enough to stay. Jimmy Mitchell, tall, dark, and lean, Is official King of the Pin-Ball Machine. He wears loud plaid suits and chews s big cigar, And two body guards ride in his long, black car. Harold Smotherman's a cinema-star, fAn extra, as yet-but he's bound to go far!! He's worked and slaved 'till a nervous wreck, Trying to scowl like Gregory Peck. Etna Rhoades' dream has finally come true- She's a city editor, and a good one, too, She's single for she hasn't yet found the right guy: And reporters whistle each time she walks by. Ah, the moment is gone and the Future once more is hung with a shroud of mystery. But it doesn't matter. Each graduating senior is going out to take his place in a bigger show-the show of life. And the show must go on! 3 Q W N, SENIOR DAY Joy rvigzns Sllpl'l'l1lQ' anul ewerylrocly is liappy on that flap of clays: Sc-niur llay.
