Ed. F. Stephenson, who has been football coach for the past four years, came to us from Kansas. He was educated at Emporia College, Emporia, Kansas, where he won letters for three years in football, basketball, baseball and track. He made the All Conference Team for three years at tackle. To this training has been added eight years of successful coaching experience. Past successes notwithstanding, Steve leaves the coaching field next year to take up regular classroom teaching. Basketball in Capitol Hill has been under the tutelage of Bill Haller for three years. He is a graduate of Oklahoma University, where he lettered two years in foot- ball, and three years in basketball and track. Himself an athlete of versatility, he proved a real coach as well, producing the city championship team this year. He is especially apt at developing new material, and in coming seasons, we should have many more championship teams. Swimming, baseball, and track have been under the direction of Vernon Kennedy who has had charge of boys' gym classes, too. This is Kennedy's first year at coaching. He is a graduate of Missouri State Teachers College at Warrensburg. While in school, he set a new Missouri record for discus and javelin, and in 1927 he set a new decathlon record at Penn Relays. In 1929, he set new records for javelin, shot put and the dis- cus. We look for great results from Mr. Kennedy. Mary Harper Richert has been in charge of Physical Education for girls for the last several years. She is a graduate of Kansas ,State Teacher's College at Emporia, and has done special work in Oklahoma and California. Under her direction, Capitol Hill has had championship teams in swimming, hockey, volleyball. She has brought girls' sports to the front in our school. Him we loved, and grieved greatly, But we know that it is better, Better far that he hath left us.
