BASKETBALL AT CAPITOL The cage squad of Capitol Catholic began their basketball season on December 15 against Washburn High and after a nip and tuck battle Capitol was defeated by the score of 18 to 30 December 22 saw the team open the league play with a victory over the Flying Dutchman of Alma by the score of 40 to 22 In this game Les Renyer had a total of fifteen pomts to lead the scoring for our team Capitol started the New year right with a surprising victory over Seamen 35 to 34 Little Leo Iandon rang the bell for twelve points of this game With the team still playing excellent ball we defeated another Jayhawk league team in the Highland Park victory by the score of 19 to 13 Landon once agam had twelve points for our team It now seemed as though a ay hawk League Championship was within our grasp With eyes on first place undisputed our quintet invaded Eskridge on anuary 14 After building up a lead in the first half Capitol slipped in the second half and thus was defeated by the score of 39 to 79 Landon had eleven pomts for the individual honors of this game The next game played was at St Marys and our team still ran close second in the league with a victory by the score of 35 to 28 In this game little Leo parted the netting for the total of fifteen pomts anuary 21 found Capitol at Osage where they were met with a barrage of baskets and de feated by the score of 16 to 38 Les Renyer scored half of our total to lead our five anuary 77 Capitol visited Alma and in an overtime defeated the Dutchman for the second time this year with a 43 to 37 score Renyer had fourteen for this game A game with Maur Hill of Atchison at Ripley brought defeat for Capitol in an overtime 37 to 38 In this game Landon once again had twelve pomts On the following Monday Cap Renyer had the majority of our points with thirteen In the return game at Atchison with Maur Hill Capitol again was defeated by the close score of 73 to 25 Landon led in points scored with a total mne With second place of the league at stake our team played Seamen and was defeated in the cracker box gym by the score of 41 to 78 Landon once again had nine points for high honors The next game played was at Wamego and the team became careless after the first quarter and were thus defeated to the tune of 17 to 75 Renyer had hve for this game On February 77 Capitol was host to the league leaders and was defeated in a close game 47 to 34 Renyer had thirteen for 1nd1 vidual honors On February 75 Capitol came out of their losing streak at Ripley with a 33 to 28 victory over St Marys Renyer once agam led our team with the total of ten to his credit On the following night Capitol defeated Wamego at Ripley 39 to 74 Honors for scoring were won by Landon with sixteen On March I Capitol pl iyed 1 new opponent in Ward but was defeated by a much classier team by the score of 53 to 37 Moe Waters took individual honors for our team with ten points In the return game with Highland Park our quintet was defeated by the score of 74 to 75 Landon had the total of eleven to lead our team In the Regional Tournament at Osage Capitol drew Garnett and was defeated by the score of 38 to 71 Thus ends another year of athletic competition at C C H S N ' D i .... i 1 , 1 ' itol played host to Eskridge and made up for the previous defeat with a 30 to 24 victory. , -, . . . . . . , .
